Linux distributions
Most of the distributions listed below can be downloaded for free
or available on CDs for some nominal cost.
- Linux Mint Debian Edition.
As its name implies it is based on Debian. It is a semi-rolling
distribution supporting traditional desktops.
Recommended!
- Ubuntu
based on Debian.
Use Xubuntu with older hardware.
This used to be my favorite distribution until the introduction of
Unity which is a desktop better suited for tablets.
- Debian.
- Fedora
born out of the Red Hat Linux distribution.
- CentOS
based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux distribution.
