Looking for an alternative to Oregon PCT

Friday, August 11, 2017

As for doing the PCT, pctoregon.com says:

First it was the snow. Then it was the bugs and blowdown. Now it's the wildfires. Oregon's PCT hikers are having a rough season this year.

In addition, I managed to hurt my back, again, but it is getting better. I'm not sure it will be all healed up though. I'll play it by ear. Given that we now have forest fires in Oregon which have closed several sections of the PCT with outlandish detours, I'm looking for alternatives, like part of the PCT in Washington state. I cannot get an entry permit into Canada in time (and the US forbids entry altogether from Canada on the PCT so going south is not an option). The advantage is that the trail begins much closer to Portland which means less driving for us, and going back to Portland to pick up the car should be easy once I reach Seattle. I'm looking into what is reasonable.
