This was our free day. After a slow start and breakfast in the dugout (see baseball has its uses), we went to John Day Fossil Beds National Monument for a hike. There were lots of people at the Visitor Center, so we bailed out and went to the Blue Basin overlook.
It was a splendid hike with a nice view of the local canyon, and we completed the loop down. There were some hazy clouds but not much in term of being concerned about viewing the eclipse tomorrow.
We had dinner at another brewery, also in John Day (it's the big town around here), took some showers, read, then bedtime for the big day tomorrow. The baseball field was pretty full by now (all places had been sold).
