We packed up the tent, and loaded all items in the car, and drove away. Traffic was pretty normal. We stopped at the local diner in Vernon, but we were the last to get served breakfast because they had run out of food, and didn't expect their suppliers for another hour or two.
We stopped at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, but it was as crowded as 2 days ago. We toured the exhibits, and got one more T-shirt to add to my collection of such shirts.
We stopped in Cascade Locks at the KOA, and managed to snag a cabin even though the sign said they were fully booked. The cabin was useful to sort out and pack the resupply packages for my Washington Section hike (from Bridge of the Gods to Stevens Pass). Natalie was most helpful in keeping me on track and cheerful. We packed 3 resupply packages with food, and some toiletries.
We heard air tankers flying overhead for hours which were fighting the fires in Oregon.
We also heard trains, but that's an unavoidable feature of Cascade Locks.
