Changing passwords on www.ucsc.edu
DRAFT
Even though ITS provides technical support in the implementation
and maintenance of the www.ucsc.edu server, it is managed by
the Public Information Office
which sets its policies and procedures.
- Description
-
The accounts you were given on pioweb have temporary passwords that
you need to change. This page has instructions specific for MS-Windows
users on how to change your password. There is no Mac or UNIX solution
at this time.
MS-Windows 2000/NT users
If you have access to a MS Windows 2000/NT machine, you can change your
password using the usual Windows 2000/NT protocol (use your username in the
UCSCNT domain).
-
Open the MS Windows Explorer, then click on the Map network
drive button (or select the Map network drive... in the
Tools menu). In the window that pops up:
-
In the Path: box, enter \\pioweb\webroot$.
-
In the Connect As: box, enter
ucscnt\username (where username
is your own username as known in the UCSCNT domain).
-
Click OK.
-
Press CTRL-ALT-DEL, then click the Change password button.
In the window that pops up:
-
In the Username box, enter your UCSCNT username.
-
In the Old password box, enter your current password.
-
In the next two boxes, enter your new password. Type carefully
since you won't see what you type.
-
Click OK. Shortly after you should see a pop-up box with
the message Password has been changed.
